Alejo

Alejo Giraldo is a Colombian tattoo artist with nearly seven years of experience, specialising in black and grey realism. Inspired by graffiti, music, and the creative culture he grew up around, Alejo discovered tattooing in 2019 and quickly found his passion in transforming stories and emotions into detailed artwork on the skin. Over the years, his journey has taken him across Colombia, tattooing in different cities and taking part in conventions, before travelling to France and Poland to continue learning and developing his craft. These experiences have allowed him to work alongside artists from different backgrounds, explore new techniques, and continually refine his approach to realism. Now based in England, Alejo brings this experience into his work, with a particular passion for large-scale black and grey realism and creating pieces with strong detail, depth, and meaning.

Questions & Answers

Questions & answers

Where are you from? I’m from Colombia.
How long have you been tattooing? I’ve been tattooing since December 2019.
What inspired you to become a tattoo artist? My inspiration to become a tattoo artist came naturally. I was always surrounded by graffiti, rap, DJs, and people involved in different forms of art. I’ve enjoyed drawing since I was at school, although I stopped for a while. During my teenage years, I considered studying criminology, but over time I realised it wasn’t the right path for me. Tattooing came into my life unexpectedly, and with the encouragement of my brother, I discovered a profession that I’m truly passionate about and that allows me to express my creativity.
What is your background? Over the past seven years, I’ve had the opportunity to travel and tattoo in different cities across Colombia, taking part in conventions and gaining valuable experiences that have helped shape my growth as an artist. I’ve also had the opportunity to tattoo in France and participate in tattoo conventions in Poland, where I met artists from different backgrounds and learned from new styles and techniques. My journey has always been driven by continuous learning, through art courses, new experiences, and working alongside other artists. I’m now continuing to develop my career here in England, bringing with me everything I’ve learned throughout my journey.
What style do you specialise in? I specialise in black and grey realism.
What do you like to do in your spare time? In my free time, I enjoy practising BMX.
What’s your favourite kind of tattoo to do? Black and grey realism is, without a doubt, the style I enjoy tattooing the most.
What’s the coolest tattoo you’ve done? One of my favourite large-scale pieces was a full back tattoo with a religious theme. I particularly enjoyed the scale and complexity of the design and being able to develop the composition across the entire back.
