Flavia Verda

Flavia is a street artist from Romania who began her tattoo career at No Regrets Studios in Bucharest as an apprentice. Her tattoos take influence from nature, animals and plants. Flavia is also inspired by human interactions, friends and cute scenarios. Now based in Bristol, Flavia tattoos in a traditional style and is happy to take on most projects. She has developed her own style, shaped by her street art and has a portfolio full of creatures she’d like to tattoo, all patiently waiting for the right person to claim them.

Questions & Answers

Questions & answers

Where are you from? I was born in Romania and moved to the UK eight years ago.
How long have you been tattooing? Since I’ve been in the UK so just over eight years.
What inspired you to become a tattoo artist? I always admired tattoos and thought being a tattoo artist was the best job in the world. I loved watching other artists while working. A good friend of mine, who is a great tattoo artist, noticed my interest and gave me his machine to try some designs on fake skin. I became really obsessed with tattooing and after only 2 months of being an apprentice in Romania, I moved to the UK to be a full-time tattoo artist. Of course, I did only small tattoos at the beginning and slowly progressed to bigger pieces.
What is your background (university etc) Ever since I was a kid I wanted to be an artist, but my parents advised me to pursue anything but that. So I entered law school and then studied veterinary medicine until I left to become a tattoo artist. During my studies, I was doing street art and graffiti and most of my friends were from the artistic community. Art never left my side or my heart.
What style do you specialise in? I specialise in my 2 biggest passions: botanical illustrations and my unique characters, called MyCuteCreatures. I've been drawing the creatures for over 17 years now and every single one is very special to me and my collectors. Nature has always been my inspiration and my peaceful place to rest and recharge. It's an infinite source of fascination.
What do you like to do in your spare time? In my spare time, I like to do gardening, grow my own food and study medicinal plants. I still do street art and participate in different exhibitions and festivals. I also enjoy watching lots of anime and science fiction shows.
What’s your favourite kind of tattoo to do? I love tattooing in both black ink only and very colourful styles, I enjoy diversity in my art.
What’s the coolest tattoo you’ve done? I really don't have a favourite/coolest tattoo, they constantly change, but I do have some favourite memories from my customers and the beautiful connections we had. I feel tattooing is not only about designs, it's also about people, feelings and moments.
