The Chrysanthemum Tattoo and Floral Sleeve

Katherine’s abdomen features a pair of chrysanthemum tattoos, perfectly positioned to complement her body shape. She explains, “The chrysanthemums were definitely an impulse. I knew I wanted something in that area, and the artist did an amazing job at putting together something beautiful that flows with the shape of my body.”

Her arm sleeve, on the other hand, was a long-planned project, incorporating ornamental elbow pieces, forearm dahlias, and upper-arm orchids. “Orchids are my favourite flower, so I wanted them to be quite visible on my arm. The dahlias on my forearm are also special as they were the main flowers in my bouquet when I got married – so in a way, I will always have my bouquet with me!”

Chrysanthemum Tattoo Inspiration and Meaning Behind the Ink

For Katherine, flowers represent more than beauty; they symbolise strength, resilience, and love. “My parents have always had flowers and plants at home, so I learned to care for them at a very young age… To me, flowers are a great example of how beautiful and perfect nature can be – as long as you care for them, they will keep blooming.”

Her tattoos also mark important milestones. “I made a compromise with my mum that I wouldn’t get any visible tattoos until after I got married… So, a few months after my wedding, it was the perfect time to get my arm sleeve done.” The ornamental elements also carry personal history: “I remember spending hours colouring in mandalas and ornamental patterns to help me with my anxiety. I like to imagine that one day my children will have fun colouring in my ornamental pieces and flowers – a great bonding experience in my opinion!”

If her tattoos could speak, Katherine imagines they would sing a Kali Uchis song. “They would probably also say that I’m an all-or-nothing type of person (go big or go home) and that femininity and boldness can go hand in hand!”
